Three hours before the start of the show by the band Baiana System – in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil in Bahia – the group’s fans were already filling Praça Cairu, in Salvador, where the presentation was scheduled to take place, this Sunday, at 7 pm .

University student Bárbara Fonseca, 42, and her daughter Flora Luz, 14, arrived at the venue at 4 pm to secure a place on the stage railing. Wearing earrings in reference to the band’s symbols, Flora said that she got ahead of herself because of the passion she has had since she was 9 years old.

“The first song I listened to was Duas Cidades, and since then I fell in love. I was enchanted by the style of music, how they manage to mix different types and form a movement that attracts so many people”, said Flora. “And I, as a mother, admire this good taste and try to keep up with these young people”, added Bárbara.

The band took the stage around 7:30 pm to perform alongside Lazzo Matumbi, Raquel Reis, Claudia Manzo, Liz Reis, Elivan Conceição, Caboclos de Itaparica, Afrosinfônica and Vandal, for the show named Sambaqui. For students Natália Cauana, 20 years old, and Ítalo Nunes, 23 years old, the mix makes the effort to be on stage pay twice as much.

“We followed them for a long time, the songs are incredible, they are wonderful”, said Natália. “His presentations are much more than shows, they talk about belonging and affirmation. How come 5 pm doesn’t arrive to see this show up close?”, emphasized Ítalo.
