NHL Players Set to Return to Winter Olympics in 2026

The NHL, International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) have finalized an agreement, paving the way for NHL player participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. This will be the first time as the 2014 Sochi Olympics that NHL players will compete for Olympic gold.
The agreement also opens the possibility for NHL players to participate in the 2030 Winter Olympics, hosted in the french Alps.This landmark decision marks a meaningful return to the global stage for the league’s stars.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry lauded the agreement between the IIHF,NHL,and NHLPA. She said it ensures the participation of the world’s best ice hockey players in both the 2026 and 2030 Olympic Winter Games. Coventry commended all parties involved for achieving this “excellent result.”
