Reports indicate that the PlayStation versions of Cyberpunk 2077 ⁢have undergone censorship, specifically regarding ⁤references to the Japanese corporation Arasaka, while the game appears uncensored on⁢ the Nintendo Switch‍ 2.This has sparked criticism from some players who find the censorship⁣ inconsistent, especially given the lack of similar restrictions in the Nintendo Switch 2 version and the presence of mature content in Cyberpunk 2077 ⁤generally.

PlayStation’s Censorship of Cyberpunk⁢ 2077

PlayStation ‍versions of Cyberpunk 2077 have been reported to feature censorship affecting depictions of the ⁤Arasaka Corporation, a prominent in-game entity. This censorship primarily involves ‍the removal or alteration of the Arasaka logo and associated branding within the game⁣ world.

The reason for this censorship stems from a ancient dispute between Sony and the real-world Japanese conglomerate, Arasaka. In 2020, Arasaka filed a cease and desist order against⁤ CD projekt Red, the developer of Cyberpunk 2077, ⁣over the use ‍of its name and logo, claiming it would damage the company’s ⁢reputation. ⁢ IGN reported on this legal action in December 2020.

As a result of this legal pressure, Sony Interactive‍ Entertainment opted to remove Arasaka branding from the PlayStation versions of⁤ the game⁢ to avoid further legal complications. This change was implemented via a game patch.

Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2: No Censorship

Despite containing ⁣mature themes, violence, and adult ⁤content, Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly uncensored, including the presence of the Arasaka Corporation and its branding.

This difference in treatment has led to player confusion and criticism, as the game’s core narrative and themes are not altered on⁢ the Switch 2.The Nintendo Switch 2’s lack of censorship suggests that Nintendo did not face similar legal pressure or chose to handle the situation differently than Sony.

As of January 29, 2026, there have been no‍ reports of censorship on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077. Eurogamer’s review⁤ of the Switch 2⁢ version confirms the presence of⁢ all in-game content, including Arasaka branding.

CD Projekt⁢ Red’s Response

CD Projekt Red has acknowledged the censorship on PlayStation⁤ platforms but has ⁢largely remained silent⁤ on the specifics, citing legal⁢ constraints. ⁢

In a statement released in December 2020,CD ‍Projekt Red stated they were “aware of the situation” and were “working to resolve ⁤it as quickly‍ as possible.” GameSpot covered CD Projekt Red’s statement. However, the‍ censorship remains in place as of January 29, 2026.
