Stanford men’s soccer earned a 1-1 road draw against NC State, as Jayden Fitzgerald Boes scored his sixth goal of the season. The result moved the Cardinal to 8-3-3 overall and 1-2-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. NC State’s record shifted to 5-5-5 following the conference matchup in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Defensive Stand in the Opening Half
Stanford leaned heavily on its backline during the opening 45 minutes to keep the Wolfpack off the scoreboard. The defense turned away seven shots from NC State before halftime as the Cardinal offense worked through tight spaces. Neither side managed to break through during a scoreless first half.
Second-Half Attack Breaks the Scoreless Tie
The Cardinal offense shifted momentum after the break by stringing together six consecutive shots. Victor Fung forced the first save of the night with a header in the 61st minute, and Trevor Islam followed with an attempt toward the back post that required another stop. The sustained pressure yielded an opening goal in the 71st minute. A free kick near the corner flag landed inside the box, where short touches from Islam and Hugo Berg set up Fitzgerald Boes for a point-blank finish that matched his team-leading sixth goal of the year.
Wolfpack Equalizer and Late Drama
NC State answered six minutes later in the 77th minute off a corner kick. A service was headed down in front of the goal before Aidan Payne backheeled the ball past the defense to tie the match at 1-1. The Wolfpack pushed for a late winner, but Stanford generated a final scoring chance in the closing seconds when Timothy Logan fired a shot that was stopped by the goalkeeper.
A really hard-earned point on the road against a very good NC State team that’s finding its stride. We dealt with a difficult week of match preparations, losing a few key guys, but we had players step up and play fantastic.

Considering the circumstances, I think the team played incredibly courageously. Now we look forward to finishing off the regular season and celebrating Senior Day with Rowan Schnebly and Dylan Groeneveld, who have been tremendous servants of our program.
