And that’s because Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox have reaffirmed and updated their joint commitment to online gaming safety, a collaboration started in 2020 to better protect players on all their platforms. The update maintains the original principles, but incorporates technological advances and new forms of cooperation, structured around three key axes:
- prevention, through accessible controls for players and families, clear information and codes of conduct that promote positive experiences;
- partnership, through joint work with the industry, regulators, law enforcement, specialized organizations and the community to investigate, classify content, report inappropriate behavior and prevent risks, especially for minors;
- and responsibility, guaranteeing effective reporting systems, proportionate sanctions, ethical use of data, legal compliance and clarity, with the common goal of making their platforms increasingly safe spaces for everyone.

Nintendo Sues Kupivip Over Russian online Operations

Kupivip was a Russian e-commerce platform that, prior to its bankruptcy, operated the official Nintendo online store in Russia. Reuters reports that Kupivip filed for bankruptcy in 2022 following sanctions imposed on Russia. Despite the bankruptcy, Nintendo alleges that Kupivip continued to sell Nintendo products without authorization.
Allegations of Trademark Infringement
Nintendo claims that Kupivip is illegally using Nintendo’s trademarks to sell products, even after ceasing to be an authorized retailer. Gonintendo details that the lawsuit specifically targets the continued sale of Nintendo Switch consoles and games. Nintendo seeks to prevent further unauthorized sales and recover damages for the infringement.
Current Status (as of January 15, 2026)
As of january 15, 2026, the lawsuit is ongoing in a Russian court. Reuters reported on January 12, 2024, that Nintendo filed the lawsuit in December 2023. There have been no significant updates reported sence than. The outcome of the case remains uncertain, and it is unclear whether Nintendo will be successful in its claims. Further updates will depend on the Russian court’s proceedings.
Nintendo’s Withdrawal from Russia
Following the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Nintendo suspended shipments to Russia. Nintendo’s Investor Relations website confirms this suspension.This decision led to the closure of the official Nintendo eShop in Russia and the termination of the partnership with Kupivip.
