Updated June 06, 2025
The Nintendo Switch 2 launch hit a snag for some U.S. customers. Several gamers reported receiving their new consoles with damaged screens after GameStop employees stapled receipts thru the boxes.
Social media users posted images of the punctured screens on platforms like Reddit and X. While the consoles still function, the damage is a frustrating issue for new owners.
GameStop acknowledged the problem, confirming that the Nintendo Switch 2 preorders staple accidents occurred at one store in Staten Island,N.Y. The company stated it is taking steps to rectify the situation.
“We’ve addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens, isolated to one store,” GameStop said in a post on X. “Replacements have been offered.Staplers have been confiscated.”
The issue highlights a potential design flaw in the Nintendo Switch 2 packaging, where the screen is close to the exterior and vulnerable to punctures. The thin cardboard offers little protection against staples.
UPDATE* For all those wondering this @gamestop branch actually came in clutch and the branch sourced around NY and NJ to provide replacements to everyone who this happened to. Not an ideal saga but happy thay made things right!
