Nintendo to End Link Feature with X: Implications for Social Media Integration on Nintendo Switch

As of June 11, 2024, Nintendo plans to end the link feature with X (formerly Twitter). With this decision, Nintendo Switch users will no longer be able to directly share photos or videos of their screen

In particular, in games like ‘Splatoon 3’, it is expected that the method of sharing images in square posts during gameplay will change. Now, images are sent directly to Nintendo servers and stored in an album in the main menu, so users can download them via their smartphone or PC. On the other hand, in ‘Splatoon 2’, image sharing via X is completely broken.

In addition, the function that allows you to request friends on SNS via the friend recommendation function “Can we be friends?” will also disappear. on the Nintendo Switch “My Page”. These changes reflect reduced integration with social media platforms and a shift towards more personal data management strategies.

Nintendo’s move suggests that, although the relationship with Facebook will continue to be maintained, there is the possibility that this too will end in the future. This change appears to be a strategic decision by Nintendo in response to user concerns regarding the future of cross-platform interaction and privacy.
