Nipah Virus Scare: 16 Clear the Test, But 255 Remain on High Alert
Nipah Virus Update: 16 People Test Negative in Malappuram
Malappuram – In a recent update on the Nipah virus situation in the district, 16 people who were in contact with a confirmed Nipah patient have tested negative. The test results were announced by Health Minister Veena George.
Today, 80 new individuals were added to the contact list, with 50 of them falling into the high-risk category. The total number of people in the contact list now stands at 255, including 77 healthcare workers. The primary contact list consists of 171 people, while the secondary contact list has 84 individuals. Notably, 128 people in the primary contact list are considered high-risk.
Four individuals exhibiting symptoms were admitted to Mancheri Medical College Hospital, bringing the total number of patients undergoing treatment at the hospital to six. Additionally, 21 patients are being treated at Perinthalmanna MES Medical College Hospital.
In response to the Nipah alert, Mancheri Medical College has set up 30 isolation rooms, six ICU beds, and six ventilators. Those in the contact list are receiving strong psychological support, with 214 people provided with support through the call centre today.
A thorough field survey was conducted, covering 4,981 houses, including 1,576 in Mampat gram panchayat, 1,711 in Vantur, and 1,694 in Tiruvalli. A total of 146 teams were interviewed, and 107 fever cases were reported, with none of them being part of the primary contact list.
A review meeting was held in the evening, attended by Health Department Minister Veena George, District Collector VR Vinod, District Police Chief R Vishwanath, Director Health Department Dr KJ Reena, Additional Directors of Health Department, District Medical Officer, and other officials.
