‘Ballerina’: Ana de Armas Takes Center Stage in ‘John Wick’ Spin-off
Updated June 08, 2025
Ballerina, the John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas, has arrived, garnering positive early reactions. The film currently boasts a high audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, possibly marking a promising direction for the franchise. De Armas leads an ensemble cast that includes familiar faces and new additions to the John Wick world.
keanu Reeves appears in Ballerina, alongside Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick reprising their roles as Winston and charon, respectively. Anjelica Huston returns as The Director, a character last seen in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Norman Reedus, known for his role in The Walking Dead, joins the cast as Daniel.
Reedus offered insights into his character,Daniel,in an interview, stating,”He would have grown up with a lot of guilt,a lot of murder,a lot of secrecy. I think he’s just come to a point where his little girl, who’s about to be introduced to this world,he’s willing to fight everybody in the world.”
“He doesn’t want this for his daughter, so he’s going to do everything he can to make sure that he can get her out of there. It sort of mirrors Ana’s character, in a way, as she’s fighting everyone, which is the same as Keanu in the John wicks. It’s that crucial to her to get the revenge, and it’s that critically important to Daniel to save his little girl. So I think that’s where those two characters come together.”
Ballerina faces a challenging box office landscape, competing with major summer releases. These include Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch remake and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. however, Ballerina secured an early lead against the latter, earning $3.75 million in previews.
