Norman Reflects on Community and Connection with Coworkers and Viewers

Janai Norman has confirmed her departure from Good Morning America Weekend following a decision by ABC not to renew her contract.

Norman announced the exit in a video message posted to social media on April 3, 2026. The confirmation followed a report from the Status newsletter on April 2, 2026, which first indicated that the network had chosen not to renew her contract.

Having joined the program as a co-anchor in July 2022, Norman had become a familiar presence on the weekend broadcast. During her time with the show, she was noted by peers and viewers for her professionalism, humor, and warmth.

In her social media announcement, Norman expressed sadness over the abrupt nature of her departure, specifically noting that she did not have the opportunity to say goodbye to her audience on air.

I hoped that we’d have more time, and it’s been hard on me that our time was cut short. I have loved my job. It has been a joy to connect with my coworkers and with viewers, to help keep you informed and entertained, and to create this community. So it really breaks my heart that I don’t get to say goodbye.

Despite the lack of an on-air farewell, Norman stated that she is focusing on the personal benefits of the transition. She mentioned that she has worked weekends for the entirety of her three young children’s lives, and the exit now allows her to spend more time with them.

Norman concluded her message by expressing gratitude for the validating and kind words she received from fans and colleagues following the news of her exit.
