NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – A Charleston man has been arrested and charged in connection with a kidnapping and assault that occurred at a North Charleston hotel in March 2024. Keith Jerome Galloway, 41, faces charges of first-degree assault and battery, as well as kidnapping, according to the North Charleston Police Department.
The incident unfolded on March 13, 2024, at a hotel on Northside Drive, where officers responded to a report shortly before 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a woman with visible injuries and in a state of distress, police said.
According to the victim’s statement, she had met Galloway approximately a week prior to the assault and considered him a friend. The situation escalated following a dispute over a lost room deposit and the potential for being evicted from the hotel. Galloway allegedly destroyed her cell phone, disconnected the room’s phone line, and prevented her from leaving.

The victim reported being repeatedly assaulted by Galloway, resulting in visible injuries. Her screams reportedly alerted other hotel guests, who then drew attention to the incident. After the assault, Galloway fled the scene on foot.
Demonstrating resourcefulness, the victim wrote “Call 911” along with the room number on a window using soap, hoping to attract help. Neighbors who witnessed Galloway leaving the hotel responded to the message and assisted in alerting authorities.
Galloway was apprehended by members of the Warrants Unit at the Berkeley County Jail, where he was served with the arrest warrants. He has since been transferred to the Al Cannon Detention Center, according to police reports.
The arrest comes more than two years after the initial incident. The North Charleston Police Department has not released further details regarding the investigation at this time.
