North Korea Unleashes Barrage of Short-Range Ballistic Missiles in Morning Provocation
North Korea Fires Ballistic Missile into East Sea
The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles in a northeast direction from the Gaechon area in South Pyongan Province, North Korea, at approximately 6:50 a.m. today.
The military is currently analyzing the detailed specifications of the missiles, including the type and flight range.
In preparation for potential additional launches, the military has strengthened surveillance and vigilance, maintaining a full readiness posture through close information sharing with the U.S. and Japan.
According to Japan’s NHK broadcaster, citing a Defense Ministry official, North Korea launched what appears to be a ballistic missile this morning, with the object believed to have fallen into the sea outside of the country’s exclusive economic zone.
The Japan Coast Guard has urged ships at sea to remain attentive to related information.
This incident marks the latest in a series of missile launches by North Korea, following the firing of several short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea on the 12th, and the revelation of a facility for producing highly enriched uranium through state-run media the next day.
