Norway’s Record Natural Gas Deliveries: A Key to Europe’s Energy Stability This Winter
- Norway plans to deliver a record amount of natural gas to Europe and the UK this winter.
- Storage sites are only at 86.65% capacity, which is ten percentage points lower than last year.
- Increased deliveries from Norway are vital for maintaining steady energy costs.
Norway‘s Natural Gas Supply to Europe
Norway plans to deliver a record amount of natural gas to Europe and the UK this winter. This aims to help stabilize gas prices despite fewer maintenance delays in supply.
Current Situation
Gas supply in Europe is facing challenges. Storage sites are only at 86.65% capacity, which is ten percentage points lower than last year. Norway’s gas is crucial as Europe’s top supplier after surpassing Russia in 2022. The Gassco pipeline network has already exceeded 2023 delivery levels, reaching 97 billion cubic meters by October 2024. This suggests that Norway will continue to supply strong levels of gas beyond 2025.
Importance of Norwegian Gas
For markets, Norwegian gas brings stability. Increased deliveries from Norway are vital for maintaining steady energy costs. This stability is essential for industries and economies that depend on reliable energy prices.
The bigger picture shows Europe’s energy transition. As Europe moves away from Russian gas, it becomes more dependent on Norwegian supplies. This situation emphasizes the need for diverse and reliable energy sources to ensure stability throughout Europe.
