Nvidia CEO Jensen huang expressed strong support for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing co. (TSMC) during a visit to Taiwan, stating that investing in the company would be a “very smart” move. This comes as the U.S. government explores potential equity stakes in key tech companies,especially those benefiting from the U.S. CHIPS Act.
Huang’s comments followed a query regarding Washington’s interest in acquiring a stake in TSMC. He lauded TSMC as “one of the greatest companies in the history of humanity.” He also highlighted that TSMC is currently developing six new products for Nvidia, including a new central processing unit (CPU) adn a general processing unit (GPU) optimized for advanced AI computation.
Recent reports indicate that U.S.Commerce Secretary is considering equity investments in companies like Micron, TSMC, and Samsung, possibly in exchange for CHIPS Act funding. The CHIPS Act, passed wiht bipartisan support, aims to revitalize U.S. semiconductor manufacturing through grants and loans.
TSMC is set to receive $6.6 billion in funding to establish advanced manufacturing facilities in the U.S., specifically in Arizona.
