According to law enforcement sources, the chase ended when Guzman lost control of the SUV while exiting the Henry Hudson Parkway at Dyckman Street around 5 a.m. The vehicle crashed and burst into flames. surveillance video shows the officers arriving at the scene shortly after.
Rather of assisting, the video appears to show the officers stopping briefly before driving away in the opposite direction of the burning vehicle. Sources say the officers allegedly turned off their emergency lights and returned to the precinct, completing their shifts without reporting the crash.
Guzman died in the crash. The family’s attorney, Jeremy Feigenbaum, expressed outrage, stating the officers acted as “judge, jury and executioner.” guzman’s stepmother, Carmen Colon, said the video was “hurtful” and believes the officers could have helped.
