auckland’s vibrant culinary scene is buzzing with excitement following the declaration of the gold medal winners at a highly anticipated baking competition. The event, which celebrates innovation and excellence in pastry, saw bakeries from across the region showcase their finest creations, with judges praising the “unbelievably fantastic” and “innovative” fillings that graced the competition tables.
“it’s unbelievably fantastic to see the different fillings people have gone for, how innovative they’ve been,” remarked one of the judges, highlighting the creativity on display.
Among the standout winners was Rosedale Bakery & Café owner, Samraksmey (Sam) So, whose “Potato Top” creation earned a coveted gold. The judges were especially impressed by the ingenuity and execution of the entries.
The competition wasn’t just about savoury delights. The Café Boutique gold winner, a rhubarb and raspberry sweet pie, received an “unbelievably delicious” commendation, proving that customary flavours can still captivate with expert planning.
Ian Moore,the chief judge with years of experience evaluating baking talent,summed up the event with enthusiasm. “The standard was amazing again as usual,” he stated. “The final range is fantastic across the board and it just comes down to a half point here and a half point there. And onc again those final flavours and the range had a significant difference in all of them as of their different categories. It was an amazing day and once again a great standard.”
