Family Who Benefited from Firefighters’ Life-Saving Actions Shows Gratitude Through Snack Donation

A family in Jeju is expressing their utmost gratitude towards off-duty firefighters who saved their 5-year-old son’s life with rapid CPR in a swimming pool incident. As a token of appreciation, the family presented snacks to the firefighters, which were later distributed to various social welfare facilities in order to spread warmth and kindness within the community.

The incident occurred on the 15th of this month when the young boy, identified as Group A, lost consciousness while playing in a swimming pool in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si. Fortunately, off-duty firefighters Kim Tae-heon and Lee Seung-joon from the West Fire Department, who happened to be at the pool with their families on their day off, spotted the situation and acted swiftly. They immediately rushed to provide first aid, including the use of an AED and chest compressions.

Thanks to the prompt response of the firefighters, Group A regained consciousness and began breathing again. The 119 ambulance arrived promptly, swiftly transporting Group A to the hospital for further treatment. The family of Group A, overwhelmed with gratitude, decided to show their appreciation by offering snacks to the fire station, hoping to encourage the firefighters in their arduous and life-saving work.

Upon receiving the generous donation, the West Fire Station suggested sharing the snacks with those in need within the community. Consequently, 45 sets of chicken were sent to various social welfare facilities, including a childcare facility in Hallim-eup. The donor, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed their gratitude, mentioning that it was the firefighters’ prompt first aid that resulted in the miraculous recovery and subsequent release of Group A from the hospital.

Kim Soo-hwan, chief of Jeju Fire and Safety Headquarters, commended the firefighters for their dedication and emphasized their mission to protect lives in emergency situations. He described moments like these as the most rewarding for firefighters and reaffirmed their commitment to leading the way in safeguarding the community.

Fire brigade Kim Tae-heon and fire brigade Lee Seung-joon from the West Fire Department, who were visiting the swimming pool with their families on a day off, saw this and immediately rushed to the patient, he asked for an AED and applied chest compressions to provide first aid..

As a result, group A regained consciousness and breathing, and the 119 ambulance arrived at the scene and quickly transported group A to the hospital.

Afterwards, Group A’s family gave snacks to the fire station to express their gratitude to the two firefighters and to encourage the firefighters’ hard work.

Western Fire Station contacted the donor who expressed his gratitude and suggested sharing for the vulnerable, and the chicken was taken to six social welfare facilities, including a childcare facility in Hallim-eup.

The donor said, “Thanks to the prompt first aid of the firefighters, the child was miraculously recovered and released from the hospital.”
