Police, who are investigating the death of a Gimpo city public official who took his life due to a malicious complaint, have registered the identity of the public official and two complainants who had posted malicious comments in a bar.
Gimpo Police Station announced on the 26th that it had arrested two complainants, Mr. A (30 years old, female) and Mr. B (40 years old), without detention, on charges of defamation under the Law on Promotion of information and use of communication networks. Protection, etc.
Mr. A is accused of publishing a malicious post about Mr. C (37, Level 7), a Gimpo City official, on an online cafe and disclosing his personal information. Mr. B is accused of making a malicious post about Mr. C in an online cafe and calling the Gimpo Town Hall service office to threaten him.
The police identified seven people who posted or made complaints about Mr C, but the five people were judged to be simple complaints or opinions and were not forwarded.
The police charged Mr A with defamation and Mr B with defamation and intimidation.
Mr. C was found dead in a car parked on a street in Seo-gu, Incheon, at around 3.40pm on the 5th of last month.
It was confirmed that Mr C received a complaint phone call on 29 February, five days before his death, when vehicle congestion occurred due to pothole repair work (road digging).
The City of Gimpo recently submitted an application for recognition of death during service to the bereaved family of Mr. C and the Public Employees’ Retirement Service.
