Ohtani Achieves Unprecedented Feat: 51 Hits and 51 Steals in Historic MLB Season
Shohei Ohtani Makes MLB History with 50 Home Runs and 50 Stolen Bases
Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has made Major League Baseball history, becoming the first player to hit 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season.
Ohtani achieved this remarkable feat with a home run in the 7th inning of the Dodgers’ 20-4 victory over the Miami Marlins, securing a playoff berth for the team and marking a first for Ohtani, who had never made the postseason despite being a two-time American League MVP during his time with the Los Angeles Angels.
In the 7th inning, Ohtani hit a home run to center field off Mike Baumann, with a runner on base. This was his second home run in the game and his 50th this season. The two stolen bases he had earlier pushed his number of successful stolen bases to 51.
Earlier in the game, Ohtani hit his 49th home run of the season in the 6th inning, a 438-foot shot that tied Shawn Green’s 2001 record for most home runs in a single season by a Dodger.
Ohtani’s impressive performance continued in the 9th inning, where he hit his third home run of the game, ending the day with 51 homers and 51 steals so far this season.
In total, Ohtani had 6 hits in 6 at-bats, including 2 doubles, marking the fifth time he has achieved 5 hits of 2 or more in a single game.
Ohtani’s outstanding game also included 10 RBIs and 4 runs scored. As he returned to the dugout after his final hit, he was met with thunderous applause from the fans.
