Shohei Ohtani Sets Historic Record in MLB
Japanese star Shohei Ohtani of the MLB Los Angeles Dodgers made history on the 19th by setting a record of “51 home runs and 51 steals” in a single season, helping the team advance to the playoffs.
Ohtani’s achievement came during the Dodgers’ away game against the Miami Marlins. He hit a home run in the top of the 6th, 7th, and 9th innings, plus two stolen bases, becoming the first player in the history of the major leagues to hit three home runs and two stolen bases in a single game.
This milestone also pushed his personal single-season record to “51 home runs and 51 stolen bases”, making him the first player in the history of the major leagues to reach the milestone of “50 home runs and 50 stolen bases” in a single season.
In an interview after the game, Ohtani said, “It’s great that we won today. I was thinking about setting a record as soon as possible. I think today should be an unforgettable day in my life.”
Ohtani’s impressive performance included hitting 6 for 6 and having 10 RBIs, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Miami Marlins 20-4.
When asked about his achievement, Ohtani responded, “I don’t know the reason, but it should be rare in a lifetime, so I am very surprised.”
Regarding officially advancing to the playoffs, Ohtani said, “This is what I have always dreamed of since I came to the major leagues. Today we were able to (make it to the playoffs), and we won beautifully, so I think today is a pretty good day.”
