Oilers Welcome back Ekholm,Skinner; Playoff Berth Looms Against Sharks
EDMONTON,Alberta – The Edmonton Oilers are set to receive a meaningful boost to their lineup as defenseman Mattias ekholm returns from injury for Friday’s game against the San Jose Sharks. This comes on the heels of Connor McDavid’s return on Wednesday.
Ekholm Returns to Bolster Defense
Ekholm, 34, has been sidelined since March 26 with an undisclosed injury. Prior to his absence, the Swedish defenseman tallied 33 points (nine goals, 24 assists) in 64 games this season.
Skinner Back, But Pickard Starts
Starting goaltender Stuart Skinner is also slated to return Friday, although he will serve as the backup to Calvin Pickard. Skinner, 26, has also been out of action since March 26. He holds a 24-18-4 record with a 2.91 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage in 49 games this season.
Injury Updates: Draisaitl, Walman, Frederic, and Kane
Coach Kris Knoblauch provided updates on other injured players. Leon Draisaitl remains out but is expected to return before the end of the regular season. Jake Walman could potentially return as early as Sunday or Monday.
However, Knoblauch indicated that Trent Frederic might not be ready for Game 1 of the playoffs. Evander Kane is on a similar timeline, with his status still under evaluation.
