Olivia Rodrigo bridged generations on Saturday, Aug. 29, during her headlining set at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields music festival in Irvine, Calif., where the 23-year-old pop star welcomed Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan, and Alanis Morissette to the stage. Held at Great Park Live before an audience of approximately 45,000 fans, the all-women festival combined high-profile guest performances with a charitable fundraising effort for women’s rights and reproductive justice organizations.
Star-Studded Duets Highlight Headlining Set
During her headlining performance, Rodrigo brought out her musical heroes for a series of collaborative duets. Rodrigo shared the stage with Sarah McLachlan to perform “Building a Mystery” and “Angel,” with the two artists dedicating the songs to Dolly Parton following Parton’s death at age 80 on Tuesday. Rodrigo subsequently performed Alanis Morissette’s mid-1990s hit “Ironic” alongside Morissette, who filled in for a missing Karen O. To close out the night, Stevie Nicks joined Rodrigo for a duet of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” prompting a mass singalong from the crowd at Great Park Live. Following the performance, Nicks delivered an extemporaneous tribute to Rodrigo’s artistry and activism, a moment that reportedly left the younger singer close to tears. Rodrigo’s setlist blended tracks from her third studio album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” alongside material from her first two LPs, 2021’s “Sour” and 2023’s “Guts.” Among the new tracks performed was “Serena Joy,” a song named after a character in Margaret Atwood’s novel “The Handmaid’s Tale,” as well as the pop-punk track “Maggots for Brains.”
Daisy Chain Fields Raises $20 Million for Charity

The beneficiaries include Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National Women’s Law Center, and Planned Parenthood. Philanthropist Melinda French Gates appeared on stage during the event to announce she had doubled the initial funds, bringing the total donation amount to $20 million. Rodrigo stated during the event that the festival will return next year. The inaugural 10-hour event featured an all-women lineup that included Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, Garbage, Not for Radio, the Breeders, and Mitski. Artists and concertgoers frequently noted the scorching weather during the August event, while fans embraced a message-driven dress code featuring feminist slogans and collectible pin-swapping inspired by official festival branding.
