Omicron is 4 to 8 times more contagious than Delta.
Hong Kong authorities say infection is possible through short encounters
Glasses or a separate face covering is recommended

A case of infection with the Corona 19 Omicron mutation was confirmed within 9 seconds in a Hong Kong subway. Hong Kong health authorities said that even a brief encounter like this can cause infection, given the omicron mutation, which is 4 to 8 times more contagious than the delta mutation.

On the 20th (local time), Hong Kong health authorities traced the route of infection of Mr. A (26) who had Omicron, and as a result, Mr. A stayed in the subway passage for about the same time as two other Omicron infected people, and the time difference was only a little. Said it was 9 seconds.

All three of these people were wearing masks, and it was found that Mr. A and two people infected with Omicron walked in different directions.

“There was no direct contact between Mr. A and other infected people,” said Dr David Hui, a Hong Kong government pandemic advisor. Dr. Hui recommends that you wear glasses or a separate face covering in addition to a mask, stating that the droplets may come into contact with your eyes.

In Hong Kong, at the end of last month, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 omicron mutant community transmission was an emergency. As a result, middle and high school classes were again suspended. Hong Kong’s Ministry of Education announced that it will suspend secondary and high school classes starting from the 24th, saying that some schools are showing infections. Kindergarten and elementary school classes have been suspended since the 14th.
