Police from the Polda Metro Jaya have arrested an online taxi driver following a road rage incident on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) in which the suspect used a lug wrench to damage another motorist’s vehicle.
The suspect was apprehended by the Polda Metro Jaya Mobile Brigade (Resmob) after reports and footage of the attack circulated. The incident occurred when the driver became enraged during a traffic dispute on the toll road, leading to the intentional destruction of the victim’s car.
According to police reports available as of May 31, 2026, the suspect targeted a Daihatsu Sigra. The attacker exited his vehicle and used a lug wrench, a tool typically used for changing tires, to smash the body and windows of the victim’s car while on the highway.
Motive and Arrest
During questioning, the suspect admitted to the act of vandalism. He stated that his actions were triggered by frustration after the driver of the Daihatsu Sigra allegedly refused to give way or allow him to merge into the lane of traffic.

AKBP Resa Fiardi Marasabessy, representing the Resmob Polda Metro Jaya, confirmed the arrest and the subsequent processing of the suspect. The police operation to locate the driver followed the identification of the suspect through evidence gathered from the scene and witness accounts.
The suspect was brought to the Polda Metro Jaya headquarters for further interrogation and legal processing. Police officials noted that the suspect’s behavior on the JORR toll road posed a significant risk to other motorists and disrupted the flow of traffic in the South Jakarta and Jabodetabek regions.
Legal Implications
The suspect is facing criminal charges related to the intentional destruction of property. Investigators are applying charges based on Article 521 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the crime of property damage.
Under these statutes, the act of intentionally destroying or damaging an object belonging to another person is a punishable criminal offense. The severity of the charges depends on the extent of the damage caused to the victim’s vehicle and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The victim’s Daihatsu Sigra sustained significant damage during the rampage. The police are currently documenting the total cost of the repairs to be used as evidence in the legal proceedings against the online taxi driver.
The case highlights the legal consequences of road rage in the Jabodetabek area, where authorities have increased monitoring of toll road incidents. The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation concludes and the case moves toward prosecution.
