Apple is set to end software support for four iPhone models with the release of iOS 27 in September 2026, according to multiple Hungarian tech reports and a leak from the Chinese social platform Weibo. The affected devices are the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and the iPhone SE (2nd generation), all of which will no longer be eligible for the upcoming operating system update.

The information originates from a post on Weibo by the account Instant Digital, which outlined the list of iPhones expected to be compatible with iOS 27. According to the leak, support will begin with the iPhone 12 series and extend to newer models, effectively cutting off the four older devices. This marks the first time since 2022 that Apple is discontinuing support for more than three iPhone models in a single release year.

In 2022, iOS 16 ended support for five iPhone models, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and the original iPhone SE. Since then, Apple has maintained longer support cycles for certain devices, with some models receiving updates for up to five or six years. The iPhone 11 series, launched in September 2019, and the iPhone SE (2nd generation), released in April 2020, have both received iOS updates for approximately six and a half years and four years, respectively, if the iOS 27 cutoff holds.

Users of the affected iPhones will still be able to use their devices normally after iOS 27’s release, but they will no longer receive security patches, bug fixes, or new features through software updates. This could leave the devices increasingly vulnerable to emerging threats over time, particularly as app developers begin to require newer iOS versions for compatibility.

The leak aligns with Apple’s historical pattern of phasing out support for older hardware as newer iOS versions demand greater processing power, memory, and architectural advancements. While Apple does not publish an official support timeline in advance, the company typically announces which devices will be compatible with the next iOS version during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is scheduled for June 2026.

For consumers, the end of software support often signals a practical upgrade timeline, especially for those who rely on their devices for security-sensitive tasks such as mobile banking or enterprise use. Although the phones will continue to function, the lack of future iOS updates may affect performance with newer applications and limit access to privacy enhancements introduced in later versions of the operating system.

As of the date of reporting, Apple has not officially confirmed the list of devices that will support iOS 27. The information remains based on the Weibo leak and subsequent reporting by Hungarian technology outlets including Player.hu, 24.hu, Raketa.hu, Mobilarena, and iPon. Users are advised to await Apple’s official announcement, expected at WWDC 2026, for definitive details on iOS 27 compatibility.
