Opening the door late at night on the first day of the new year… 109 arrested at Hongdae club for illegal business

On the first day of the new year, the police arrested a bunch of Hongdae club owners and guests who violated the government’s quarantine guidelines and opened after 9 pm.

According to the police on the 2nd, the Mapo Police Station in Seoul is investigating a total of 109 people, including owner A (in his 50s) and customers, who have operated illegally at two clubs in Donggyo-dong, on charges of violating the Infectious Disease Prevention Act. They were arrested for violating the operating hours limit, and the police will notify the local ward office of the discovery.

The police, who were called to the scene at around 10:30 the night before, were reported to have found out that the club was in business and forcibly opened the door to crack down on it.

In accordance with the social distancing guidelines that have been strengthened since the 18th of last month, the business hours of restaurants, cafes and entertainment facilities are limited to 9:00 p.m. Users who violate quarantine rules must pay a fine of 100,000 won, and owners and employees caught must pay a fine of not more than 3 million won.
