On August 27, 2023, the Lan Tao Mae Thai Mueang Beach area in Phang Nga Province witnessed a surge of activity as more than 1,200 amateur and professional runners from across the country congregated for the “Bangkok Airways Boutique Series 2023 – PHANGNGA HALF MARATHON 2023”. The event, presided over by Mr. Ekarat Leesen, Governor of Phang Nga Province, was released by esteemed executives from Bangkok Aviation Company, along with local administrators and government agencies.

The influx of runners, who arrived in groups from various states, has created an electric atmosphere, igniting a burgeoning trend in sports tourism. Notably, this has breathed life into the local tourism economy, boosting demand for accommodations and enticing visitors to explore the attractions in the area. The marathon also collaborated with Thai Mueang Khao Lampi-Hat National Park in organizing meaningful social activities to raise funds for the Sea Turtle Conservation Fund and the Phang Nga-Phuket habitat, aimed at releasing green turtles back into the sea.

Mrs. Ariya Prasatthong-Osoth, Director and Chairman of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee at Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited, expressed her excitement about the event, noting that this marked the 5th consecutive year of the “Bangkok Airways Boutique Series 2023” and the 2nd time it was being organized in Phang Nga Province. This initiative serves to promote sports tourism while simultaneously stimulating the local economy. Looking ahead, Bangkok Airways plans to organize similar events in other major tourist destinations such as Surat Thani, Lampang, and Sukhothai, featuring the New Marathon (10 kilometers) and Fun Run (5 kilometers) categories.

The collaboration between Bangkok Airways, TAT, Phang Nga Province, and Thai Mueang Khao Lampi-Had National Park strives to bolster the community’s tourism economy, emphasizing the importance of sustainability. These efforts extend beyond benefiting the society and public health, as funds raised will aid the conservation of sea turtles. The participation of renowned Thai actors “Lukkade-Methinee Kingpayom and Rasamee Khae Fahkuealon” in the 21-kilometer race added a touch of glamour to the competition.
