The Indiana Pacers are heading to the NBA Finals after a decisive 125-108 victory over the New York Knicks in Game 6 of the conference finals. This NBA Finals appearance marks a meaningful step for Indiana, who fell short last year, losing to the Boston Celtics.
This time around, the Pacers needed only five games to eliminate the Knicks. Their next challenge: the Oklahoma City Thunder, who boast the league’s best regular-season record at 68 wins.The Oklahoma City Thunder will host Game 1 on June 5, holding home-court advantage in the series.
tyrese Haliburton has been instrumental in Indiana’s success. The point guard averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds,and 10.0 assists against the Knicks. The Pacers acquired Haliburton in a mid-season trade during the 2021-22 season, sending Domantas Sabonis to Sacramento.
As acquiring Haliburton, indiana has built a strong supporting cast, including Aaron Nembhard and Aaron Nesmith. The team also added Pascal siakam, a third-time All-Star, via trade last season. The Pacers are known for their fast-paced style, ranking seventh in the NBA during the regular season. Their strong play continued after January 1,with a 34-14 record,placing them fourth in the league.
After finishing fourth in the East, the Pacers eliminated the milwaukee bucks in the first round and then upset the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games. They continued their playoff run by defeating the New York Knicks.
Rick Carlisle coaches the Pacers. He previously served as an assistant coach and head coach for Indiana before leading the Dallas Mavericks to a championship in 2011.
This will be the Pacers’ second NBA Finals appearance, their first since 2000 when they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.
