Adam “Pacman” Jones Faces Legal Hurdles After Cincinnati Arrest
Updated June 11, 2025
Former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam “pacman” Jones, 41, entered a not guilty plea wednesday following his weekend arrest in Covington, KY, just across the river from Cincinnati. The role of alcohol and arrest procedures are now under scrutiny.
Jones was taken into custody early Saturday by the Covington Police Department. he faces charges of public alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct, and assault on a police or probation officer. After posting a $10,000 bond, he was released later that morning.
Pete Schaefer, Jones’ attorney, addressed the situation Wednesday, claiming that both law enforcement and the media have exaggerated the details surrounding the Cincinnati arrest.
Schaefer stated,”The recent arrest of Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones in covington,Kentucky,is yet another example of overzealous policing and the systemic issues that plague our justice system. Adam did nothing wrong other than exercise his right to ask why he was being detained.”
Schaefer further elaborated on the shifting justifications for the arrest. “Initially, officers claimed he was being arrested for assault and then shifted to public intoxication — which, in itself, is not a crime in many jurisdictions unless it leads to dangerous behavior — and finally settled on disorderly conduct, simply for asking why he was being detained,” Schaefer said.
The attorney also suggested that Jones is being unfairly targeted due to his past. “Adam, like every American, is innocent until proven guilty. Yet, once again, his past is being weaponized against him in the court of public opinion, while the officers involved face no scrutiny for their conduct,” Schaefer said. “Adam deserves fairness, not another headline designed to paint him as a villain for clicks.”
This latest incident marks at least the fourth time since 2021 that Jones has been arrested. He has faced public intoxication charges in each of the last three years.
Prior incidents include a 2023 removal from a flight at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky international airport, resulting in charges of alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct, and terroristic threatening. In 2024, he was arrested in Arlington, Texas, for public intoxication and assaulting a peace officer during the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson boxing event.
In 2021, Jones pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor assault counts stemming from an altercation at a Cincinnati bar, leading to an 18-day jail sentence, according to Hamilton County court records.
Jones, a former All-Pro kick returner and Pro Bowl cornerback, played 12 NFL seasons (2005-2018), including eight with the Bengals after being drafted sixth overall in 2005.
