Ramallah – The Palestinian Authority expresses regret and criticism regarding the veto used by the United States of america (US) against the Resolution of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) concerning the Gaza ceasefire. Palestine states that the US veto will likely encourage Israel to continue its actions in the territory.

“We convey our regret and surprise that the US government once again blocked the ceasefire resolution, although all members of the Security Council had approved the draft,” stated Nabil Abi Rudeineh, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Authority Presidential Office, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Friday (9/19/2025).

On thursday (18/9), 14 member countries of the UN Security Council supported the latest resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and for Israel to revoke all restrictions on aid delivery to the Palestinian area.

The latest resolution draft was compiled by 10 elected members out of a total of 15 United Nations member countries. It also demanded the immediate, dignified, and unconditional release of all hostages still detained by Hamas and othre militant groups in the Gaza Strip.

The sole member opposing the resolution was the US, exercising its right of veto. This marks the sixth time the US has used its veto rights during UN Security Council votes regarding the Gaza war.
