Pardoned prisoner in occupied Luhansk kills teenager

Convicted criminals are increasingly fighting on the Russian side in Ukraine. A Russian prisoner has now killed a Ukrainian teenager.

In the occupied Ukrainian region of Luhansk, a former Russian prisoner is said to have killed a 17-year-old Ukrainian girl. The newspaper “Novaya Gazeta Europe” reports on this after evaluating articles on the Telegram news service. As a result, the suspect, Andrey Kurbasov, who was previously convicted of murder, is said to have been recruited as a soldier for the fighting in Ukraine and was thus able to avoid conviction.

Kurbasow is now said to have confessed to the police that he first raped 17-year-old Anastasia V. in a car and then killed her. He then buried her body in a nearby forest and marked the spot with stones. As “Novaya Gazeta Europe” reports, Kurbasov is said to have committed other crimes before his murder conviction. Accordingly, the inmate had previously been charged with armed robbery, car theft and drug possession.

In March this year, Vladimir Putin signed a law granting convicts immunity if they fight in Ukraine. Crimes such as murder, theft or rape can also be pardoned in this way.
