Meta has introduced a new feature within its parental supervision tools that allows parents to view the topics their teenagers have been discussing with Meta AI across Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. This update, announced in April 2026, expands existing supervision capabilities by providing insights into AI interactions, aiming to help parents better understand their teens’ engagement with generative AI in a safe and informed manner.

The new functionality appears as an “Insights” tab within the supervision interface, accessible through Meta’s Family Center. Parents supervising Teen Accounts can now see a summary of the subjects their teens have explored with Meta AI over the past week. These topics include categories such as School, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Travel, Writing, and Health and Wellbeing, with further subtopics available for deeper insight—for example, fashion, food, and holidays under Lifestyle, or fitness, physical health, and mental health under Health and Wellbeing.

According to Meta, the feature is designed to complement existing safety protections built into AI experiences for Teen Accounts. These protections are informed by 13+ movie rating guidelines and parent feedback, ensuring that Meta AI avoids providing age-inappropriate responses. In cases where the AI does not engage with a question due to safety policies, parents will still be able to see the topic their teen attempted to discuss, maintaining transparency even when no direct response is generated.

The rollout began in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Brazil, with plans to expand globally in the coming weeks. Meta emphasized that the insights are intended to support ongoing conversations between parents and teens about responsible AI use, rather than to monitor or restrict interactions. The company stated it will continue to gather feedback from parents and experts to refine the tool over time.

This development reflects Meta’s broader effort to address growing concerns about adolescent AI usage by increasing parental visibility without compromising teen privacy. By focusing on topic-level insights rather than message content, the feature seeks to balance oversight with trust, aligning with evolving expectations around AI accountability and family digital wellbeing.
