Speaking on the “Smartless” podcast, Posey said that after starring in indie hits like “Party Girl” and “Dazed and Confused,” she found herself sidelined from major studio projects.
Posey recalled feeling pigeonholed after the indie movement gained mainstream attention. “I felt like I was called a name, in a way,” posey said, explaining that she had to audition for Hollywood movies despite leading independent films. She mentioned auditioning for “Speed,” a role that ultimately went to Sandra Bullock, and losing roles to Julia Roberts.
The actress from “The White Lotus” believes she was made to feel inadequate compared to bigger Hollywood names. “I can promise I can memorize these lines in the script, and we’ll have a blast, trust me!” she remembers saying. she added that she spent about 20 years working with “great auteurs,” often for less pay, but fulfilling her creativity.
