A tragic scene unfolded in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, as Pastor Sérgio Carvinho collapsed and died during a church service. The 47-year-old pastor was delivering a sermon at the God Is Love Pentecostal Church on May 31 when he suddenly fell to his knees and became unresponsive. The sudden death of the beloved church leader has shocked his community.
Carvinho,an invited guest speaker,had been preaching for about 16 minutes when the incident occurred.According to witnesses, he was reciting a passage when he knelt down. He then fell silent, unable to rise again. A nurse and a nursing student present in the congregation rushed to provide first aid while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance.
The nursing student, who remained anonymous, told local media that Carvinho was sharing an emotional story about his father just before he collapsed. She added,”Everything seemed normal while he was preaching… I think he got very emotional.”
The cause of death remains undetermined. “We don’t know if he had an underlying heart issue or not,” the nursing student said. “Tests will confirm whether he had a heart attack or something similar.”
