Introducing Wanwan Ramen: A Delicious and Healthy Ramen for Dogs

On August 23, 2024, “Wanwan Ramen,” a ramen for dogs, went on sale at Marui Online. This product was jointly developed by Meta Akita Co., Ltd. (Akita City, Akita Prefecture), which is working on regional revitalization with Akita dogs, Kawakyo Co., Ltd. (Kitakata City, Fukushima Prefecture), a long-established Kitakata ramen shop in Fukushima Prefecture, and Iwasaki Paper Box (Higashisonogi District, Nagasaki Prefecture), a packaging design company in Nagasaki Prefecture.

The planning for “Wanwan Ramen” began with the theme of “combining the culture and technology that each region is proud of.” The design features an Akita dog as its motif, and the packaging was created by Iwasaki Paper Box, a 64-year-old company in Nagasaki Prefecture. Kawakyo, a long-established Kitakata ramen shop in Fukushima Prefecture, developed and commercialized ramen for dogs.

This product is based on the flat, medium-thick, curly noodles that are characteristic of Kitakata ramen, but has been adapted so that dogs can eat it. It is made using carefully selected wheat flour and Kitakata’s famous water, “Tsugamine Stream Water,” and is topped with domestic chicken breast meat and made with a rich soup made from chicken and scallop extracts. It is also a product that is considerate of your dog’s health, as it does not contain salt.

The ramen meets pet food safety standards and portions are set according to the dog’s weight: for example, it is recommended that dogs under 5kg be offered one third of the noodles and one packet of chicken breast soup, while dogs over 15kg be offered one bowl of noodles and three packets of soup.
