Panda Diplomacy: A Symbol of Unity
China has long used pandas as a diplomatic tool to strengthen international relations. When cross-strait relations with Taiwan were good, China gifted pandas to Taiwan as a symbol of friendship.
Recently, the 20th birthday party of panda ‘Yuanyuan’ was held at the Taipei Zoo in Taiwan, despite the current conflict between the two sides. The celebration drew a large crowd, and Yuanyuan was seen enjoying a birthday cake with the number 20 written on it.
Yuanyuan arrived in Taiwan in 2008 with her male companion, Tuan Tuan, when cross-strait relations were peaceful. The two pandas had two cubs, Yuan Zhai and Yuan Bao, who also live at the Taipei Zoo. Although Tuan Tuan passed away in 2022, the name Tuan Yuan, a combination of his name and Yuan Yuan’s name, means “a scattered family becomes one” in Chinese.
Electric Watercraft: A New Trend in Water Sports
In California, a new electric boat designed for wakeboarding has been making waves. The boat is fully electric, noise-free, and emission-free, with computer-controlled wave amplification for a more thrilling water sport experience.
The boat is equipped with the latest technologies, including a display screen and Wi-Fi, allowing for wireless software updates. However, the biggest drawback is the hefty price tag of $258,000.
As electric vehicles become more prevalent on the road, electric boats are also gaining popularity in water sports. The manufacturer expects the price of this technology to decrease over time, making it more accessible to a wider range of consumers.
These are just a few of the latest news stories from around the world.
