MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday bid farewell to outgoing Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss, acknowledging his significant role in strengthening the diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations. The meeting, held at Malacañan Palace, marked the culmination of Ambassador Fluss’s tenure in the Philippines.
Acknowledging Diplomatic Achievements
During the farewell call, President Marcos Jr. expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Fluss for his dedicated service and impactful contributions. The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) shared highlights of the meeting, emphasizing the positive trajectory of Philippines-Israel relations during Fluss’s ambassadorship.
“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received outgoing Israeli ambassador HE Ilan Fluss in a farewell call, thanking him for his contributions to strengthening Philippines-Israel bilateral relations,” the PCO stated in a release accompanying the shared photographs.The President specifically lauded Fluss’s efforts in fostering improved ties, underscoring the importance of his diplomatic work.
Ambassador Fluss’s Extensive Diplomatic Career
Ambassador Ilan Fluss,a seasoned diplomat,was appointed as Israel’s envoy to the Philippines in 2021. His career in the foreign service, which began in 1994, is marked by a diverse range of international assignments and significant contributions to Israel’s diplomatic outreach.
Global Experience and Key Roles
Fluss’s extensive experience includes representing Israel in various capacities at its embassies in Manila, the Netherlands, and South Africa. He also served at the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations in New York, gaining valuable insights into multilateral diplomacy.
A notable part of his career involved representing Israel in Bahrain from 2016 to 2018, an assignment undertaken as part of a special operation. Prior to his posting in Manila, Fluss held key positions within Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2009 to 2016, he served as Israel’s director for policy planning and external relations, and concurrently as deputy head of the agency for international progress cooperation, MASHAV. From 2018 to 2021, he further contributed to economic diplomacy as the deputy head of the economic division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The President’s commendation of Ambassador Fluss highlights the enduring partnership between the Philippines and Israel, built on mutual respect and shared interests.
