The 29th Beijing University Faculty Tennis Competition was held on August 31, 2024, with the aim of promoting national fitness and health. The event saw the participation of 224 faculty members from 22 Beijing universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University. The competition was divided into three areas: Peking University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Beijing University of Chemical Technology.
The Peking University faculty tennis team achieved impressive results, thanks to the strong support of the Peking University Labor Union and the Sports Research Department. The team made careful plans and selected 28 players to participate in the competition. Through hard work, teamwork, and determination, the team won the second place in the team event.
The Peking University competition area hosted three groups: 50+ men’s group, 60+ men’s group, and 70+ men’s group. The opening ceremony was hosted by Liu Maohui, President of the Beijing University Tennis Association and President of the Peking University Faculty Tennis Association.
Despite the rain on the day of the competition, the participating players and volunteer service team arrived early, and the competition went smoothly. In the Beijing University of Chemical Technology competition area, teacher Chen Guanpeng’s partner was unable to participate due to some reasons. Teacher Zhang Yuwei took charge and partnered with Chen Guanpeng, despite a shoulder injury, and won the runner-up in the 40-age group.
The competition provided a platform for tennis enthusiasts in Beijing universities to learn from each other and communicate. The Peking University team showed a spirit of unity, hard work, and striving for the first place, and interpreted the sports spirit of “friendship first, competition second”.
The Peking University Faculty and Staff Tennis Association will continue to practice the concept of “healthy campus, sports first”, provide more competition and exchange activities for faculty and staff, and enable faculty and staff to work with a healthier and fuller mental state.
