Penguins Defenseman Marcus Pettersson Injured Against Senators
Penguins’ Pettersson Injured, Leaves Game Against Senators
KANATA, Ontario – The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a blow in their 3-2 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night as defenseman Marcus Pettersson left the game with a lower-body injury.
Pettersson hobbled off the ice late in the first period, favoring his leg,and did not return. The exact nature of the injury and its cause remain unclear.
“I don’t have a status update,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said after the game. “He’s out with a lower-body injury. I can’t tell you any status other than that.”
The 28-year-old Pettersson has been a key part of the Penguins’ defensive corps this season, often playing alongside Erik Karlsson and providing stability to the offensive-minded defenseman’s game. Pettersson has 13 points (2-11-13) in 32 games.
His absence forced the Penguins to play with just five defensemen for the remainder of the game, leading to increased ice time for both kris Letang and Karlsson, who each logged over 26 minutes.
pettersson’s injury comes at a crucial time for the penguins, who are battling for playoff positioning. He is also a pending free agent, and his name has been circulating in NHL trade rumors.
The penguins are off Sunday, but fans will be anxiously awaiting an update on Pettersson’s status following Monday’s practice.
