The People Power Party, which completed nominations for 254 constituencies ahead of the 22nd National Assembly election, launched an all-out war in the ‘semiconductor belt’.

The ‘Semiconductor Belt’ is considered one of the battlegrounds in this general election, along with the ‘Han River Belt’ in Seoul and the ‘Nakdong River Belt’ in Busan and Gyeongnam. It encompasses the southern Gyeonggi region, including Suwon, Hwaseong, Yongin, and Pyeongtaek, and semiconductor companies are concentrated around Suwon, where Samsung Electronics is located.

People Power Party’s southern Gyeonggi region candidates promised at the Gyeonggi Provincial Council on the 18th, “We will enact the ‘Special Act on the Development and Support of the Semiconductor Industry’ as the first bill when the 22nd National Assembly opens.”

The main purpose of the special law is to designate Suwon, Seongnam, Yongin, Hwaseong, Osan, Pyeongtaek, Icheon, and Anseong as ‘semiconductor megacities’ and provide policy support such as deregulation and fast track licensing. In the resolution to enact a special law released on this day, 22 candidates from the southern region were named, including Suwon Byeong-gyu, a former Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, who was the main sponsor. Seoul Gangnam-byeong candidate Koh Dong-jin, former president of Samsung Electronics, also participated. As the ‘Semiconductor Belt’ is attracting a lot of attention from the political world, there are many places where close competition is expected in each constituency.
