Peruvian CEOs Optimistic About Short-Term Growth, Despite Challenges
According to PwC’s Annual Global CEO Survey, Peruvian CEOs are more optimistic about their country’s short-term economic prospects than their global counterparts. Out of 4,701 CEOs worldwide, 97 from Peru participated, making it the second-largest representation in Latin America.
While 71% of global CEOs anticipate improved economic growth worldwide by 2025, a higher percentage (84%) of Peruvian CEOs expect their home country’s GDP to increase at a healthy pace. This optimism persists despite projections from the Central Bank of Peru indicating that the country’s growth rate in 2025 (3%) will be nearly identical to the 3.2% growth experienced in 2022.
Expert opinions suggest that Peru’s situation, while challenging, compares favorably to the rest of the region. "Latin America is facing subdued growth rates, but Peru maintains macroeconomic stability," said Carlos Oliva, a former Minister of Economy and Finance.
However, caution is warranted. "Peru is doing better than its neighbors, but that’s a low bar," Oliva added. "We should aim for growth rates above 5%."
Risks and Opportunities
While 64% of Peruvian CEOs express concern about macroeconomic volatility—a slightly lower percentage than their global (70%) and Latin American (74%) counterparts—cybersecurity risks, a significant concern globally, receive less attention among Peruvian respondents. This may be due to Peru’s lower digital adoption rates and banking penetration.
Peruvian CEOs cite strong competition (41%) and rising costs (37%) as main threats to their businesses. To counter these challenges, Peruvian leaders have focused on product/service innovation (34%), targeting new customers (29%), and exploring new sales channels (27%) over the past five years.
Investing in Peru’s Future
Despite the economic optimism, challenges persist. Informality and illegal activities like deforestation and mining pose challenges to sustainable development. In fact, 76% of Peruvian CEOs report that eco-friendly investments have not significantly impacted the public incentives they receive.
Oliva suggests that current environmental regulations align with international standards, but their effectiveness is hindered by widespread informality.
Embracing Technology
Peruvian CEOs are also bullish on technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). Sixty percent believe AI will boost their businesses’ profitability in the next year, surpassing the global average by 11 points. Similarly, over 60% expect AI to integrate into their organizations’ core processes.
Orlando Marchesi, PwC Peru’s principal partner, emphasizes that this optimism extends to global and local economic growth prospects and the potential of new technologies to transform businesses.

Peruvian CEOs: A Beacon of Hope in Uncertain Times?
The optimism radiating from Peruvian CEOs offers a compelling counterpoint to the cautious global sentiment. While global economic forecasts remain guarded, Peruvian business leaders see a brighter future, highlighting the countryS unique resilience and perhaps even entrepreneurial spirit. This confidence, though, must be tempered by a realistic assessment of the macroeconomic challenges Peru faces.
Careful attention to factors like inflation, regulatory stability, and infrastructure progress will be crucial in translating this optimism into tangible growth. the government’s ability to nurture this burgeoning confidence and create a favorable business environment will ultimately determine whether Peruvian CEOs’ optimistic outlook becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Peruvian CEOs exhibit a commendable level of optimism regarding their country’s economic trajectory despite the existing challenges. While noting the successes in maintaining macroeconomic stability and outpacing some Latin American neighbors, experts emphasize the need to strive for higher growth rates exceeding 5% to truly propel economic prosperity. While concerns about macroeconomic volatility remain, complacency towards cybersecurity risks should be addressed as Peru’s digital landscape evolves. The potential for growth exists, and by navigating the risks and capitalizing on emerging opportunities, Peru’s buisness leaders can drive sustained and inclusive economic progress for the nation.
