Czech Television (CT) announced on friday the passing of Petr Obdržálek, a pivotal figure in the nation’s broadcasting history, at the age of 84. Obdržálek’s nearly six-decade career spanned Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, leaving an indelible mark on generations of viewers.
He is best known as the founder and director of “Calendarium,” a long-running program dedicated to highlighting interesting anniversaries. The show, a staple of Czech Television, has been a consistent presence for decades, guided by presenter Saskia Burešová, who has hosted the segment for over thirty years.Burešová is also known as the wife of the popular character Zdrálka.
Beyond “Calendarium,” Obdržálek’s creative vision extended to a diverse range of programming. He directed numerous children’s programs and television films, including an engaging small-scale TV cabaret and the adventure series “Friends of Good Water,” alongside several beloved television fairy tales. His work also included contributions to the popular music-entertainment cycle ”Klip Klap,” a collaboration between Karel Šíp and Jaroslav Uhlíř, and a selection of short documentaries.
