Diesel Price Reduction
The Finance Division announced on Sunday night that the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) will decrease by Rs3 per litre for the next two weeks. The new price of HSD is Rs269.99 per litre, effective September 1, 2025, according to a notification from the Finance Division reported by Dawn.com.
HSD is primarily used in the transport sector – including trucks, buses, trains, tractors, and agricultural engines – and its price fluctuations often contribute to inflation, particularly affecting the cost of vegetables and other food items.
Petrol Price Remains Unchanged
Petrol prices will remain stable for the next fortnight, holding at Rs264.61 per litre. This price impacts middle- and lower-middle-income groups who rely on petrol for private cars, motorcycles, rickshaws, and small vehicles.
Other Fuel Price Adjustments
In addition to the HSD reduction, the prices of superior kerosene oil and light diesel oil were also lowered.Superior kerosene oil decreased by Rs1.46 per litre, while light diesel oil saw a reduction of Rs2.40 per litre.
Government Decision-Making Process
The Finance Division stated that these price revisions are based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and relevant ministries. This decision aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to manage fuel costs and thier impact on the economy.
Recent Price Adjustments & Economic Context
On August 16, 2025, the Finance Division announced a Rs12.84 per litre cut in HSD prices, while petrol prices remained unchanged at that time. Superior kerosene oil and light diesel oil were also reduced by Rs7.19 and Rs8.2 per litre, respectively.
