Egypt Secures Valuable Victory Against Botswana in 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers

The Egyptian national team secured a 4-0 victory against the Botswana national team in a match held at the Obed Itani Stadium, as part of the second round of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet scored twice for the Egyptian national team, with goals in the 5th and 29th minutes. Mohamed Salah added the third goal in the 56th minute, while Mustafa Fathi scored the fourth goal in the 90th + 3rd minute.

The Egyptian national team now tops Group C with 6 points, following their 3-0 victory against Cape Verde in the first round match held at the Cairo International Stadium.

Group C consists of Egypt, Mauritania, Cape Verde, and Botswana.

Egypt’s Upcoming National Team Matches

The Egyptian national team is scheduled to play Mauritania in Cairo on October 7, followed by a home match against the same team on October 15.

In November, the Egyptian national team will conclude the qualifiers with matches against Cape Verde on November 11 and Botswana on November 19.

Pre-Match Event

A surprising incident occurred before the match, as the Botswana national team met Mauritania in a match last Saturday, which ended with a 1-0 victory for Mauritania.

However, the Botswana national team delegation did not return to their country due to unbooked return tickets, leading to a request to postpone their match against Egypt.

The Egyptian Football Association and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) agreed to hold the match at 7 pm, despite CAF’s initial confirmation of a 9 pm kickoff.

Pharaohs with Dean

Since Hossam Hassan’s appointment as the coach of the Egyptian national team in February, he has managed 6 matches, with 4 wins, 1 draw, and 1 defeat.

Hassan’s debut was against New Zealand in a friendly tournament, which Egypt won 1-0. He then lost 4-2 to Croatia in the same tournament.

Hassan’s first official match was against Burkina Faso in June, which Egypt won 2-1. He then drew 1-1 against Guinea Bissau in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and won 3-0 against Cape Verde in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Egypt’s latest victory against Botswana marks their second win in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

A Historic Night for Salah

The match was historic for Mohamed Salah, as it marked his 100th match in the national team jersey. Salah scored the third goal, making the match a memorable one in his career.
