SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Round 2 of the 2026 WM Phoenix Open is underway, and the “People’s Open” is already delivering drama as players battle for position at TPC Scottsdale. Chris Gotterup will be looking to maintain his strong start after an impressive opening round, while World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler aims to climb the leaderboard after a challenging first day.
Gotterup finished Round 1 with an 8-under 63, establishing a two-stroke lead over Matt Fitzpatrick. Nicolai Højgaard, Pierceson Coody, Max McGreevy, and Daniel Berger also find themselves near the top of the standings.
Today’s play will determine which golfers advance to the weekend rounds, with the projected cut line currently at 1-under par. Scheffler, after an uncharacteristic 2-over 73 on Thursday, fired a 6-under 65 on Friday to safely finish inside the cutline.
Leading the field after Friday’s second round is Ryo Hisatsune, who shot an impressive 8-under 63. He holds a one-stroke lead over Hideki Matsuyama, who carded a 10-under score. Pierceson Coody and Chris Gotterup are tied for third at 8-under, followed by Si Woo Kim, Sahith Theegala, John Parry, and Akshay Bhatia at 7-under. Matt Fitzpatrick rounds out the top 10 at 7-under.
Several players posted strong scores on Friday, with Si Woo Kim leading the charge with a 9-under 62. Hisatsune’s 8-under 63 also highlighted the day’s best rounds.
Play was suspended due to darkness at 8:20 p.m. ET on Friday, with three players still on the course and one hole remaining. The 36-hole cut will be made official once those players complete their rounds on Saturday morning, though it’s unlikely the cutline will move significantly.
