Phoenix is expected to warm into the 90s this weekend as a ridge of high pressure builds across the Southwest, according to the latest forecast from AZ Family’s First Alert Weather team. The warming trend begins Saturday morning with lows in the 60s, followed by daytime highs climbing into the low to mid-90s by afternoon, marking a noticeable shift from recent cooler conditions.
Meteorologists note that the high-pressure system is suppressing cloud cover and limiting afternoon breezes, allowing temperatures to rise steadily through the weekend. Sunday is forecast to be even warmer, with highs potentially reaching the mid-90s across the Phoenix metro area, including Scottsdale, Mesa, and Tempe. Overnight lows will remain mild, mostly in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.
Weather Pattern Shift Brings Early Summer Heat
The warming trend is driven by a strengthening upper-level ridge over the Four Corners region, which is diverting storm systems northward and allowing subtropical air to surge into Arizona. This pattern is typical for mid-to-late April but is arriving slightly earlier than average, contributing to the early-season warmth. Similar conditions in past years have led to the first 90-degree readings of the season occurring in late April.
No Immediate Relief Expected Before Midweek Changes
While the weekend will be dry and hot, forecasters indicate that changes are expected to arrive by early next week. A trough of low pressure is projected to move inland from the Pacific Coast by Tuesday, increasing wind speeds and ushering in cooler air. This shift could bring highs back into the 70s by midweek, along with a chance of gusty conditions and scattered cloud cover.
