PIA Automation announced the launch of a new business segment, Embodied AI & Humanoid Robotics, on April 14, 2026. The initiative combines artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced manufacturing to develop humanoid robots capable of physically interacting with their environments and adapting to shifting production requirements.

The move is designed to address the increasing complexity of modern manufacturing systems. According to the company, manufacturers are increasingly requiring flexible and scalable systems capable of managing a wide variety of product variants, which traditional industrial robots—typically limited to controlled environments and repetitive functions—cannot easily handle.

Central to this new segment is the application of embodied AI, which is the integration of artificial intelligence into physical systems. This technology allows robots to move beyond fixed programming to perform tasks that have previously been difficult or impossible to automate in industrial settings.

Industrial Applications and Human-Robot Collaboration

The new robotics segment focuses on improving efficiency and maintaining quality while scaling operations. PIA Automation intends to deploy these systems as flexible assistance tools in assembly and within adaptive logistics processes.

Industrial Applications and Human-Robot Collaboration

Integrating embodied AI and humanoid robotics into industrial applications opens up entirely new production possibilities for our customers. From flexible assistance systems in assembly to adaptive logistics processes, a wide range of applications is emerging that supports teams in various working environments and enables new forms of human-robot collaboration.

Thomas Ernst, Chief Sales Officer & Chief Technology Officer at PIA Automation

By utilizing these intelligent assistants, the company aims to support human teams in environments with high product variability, providing a level of flexibility that exceeds conventional automation solutions.

Strategic Partnership and the Joybot Venture

To develop and industrialize these solutions, PIA Automation has entered into a joint venture called Joybot Manufacture. This partnership is with AGIBOT, a global robotics company that specializes in embodied intelligence.

The collaboration with AGIBOT covers the entire humanoid robotics value chain. This includes everything from initial research and development to the production and assembly of the necessary hardware components.

PIA Automation plans to establish its own manufacturing capacities within the European market. This strategy is intended to enable localized, large-scale production of humanoid robotic systems, which the company believes will accelerate their introduction to the market.

Humanoid Robot Product Lineup

The company has introduced three distinct humanoid robotic units tailored for different operational environments:

  • I-Bot: A humanoid industrial robot featuring a mobile platform designed specifically for smart factories. The I-Bot is engineered to navigate complex production environments, support precision manufacturing, and collect operational data.
  • P-Bot: A service-oriented humanoid unit designed for use in banks, shopping centers, and events. This model is capable of multimodal interaction with users.
  • A-Bot: A compact humanoid system intended for use in education, research, and various interactive applications.

Market Projections and Industry Outlook

The launch comes as the humanoid robotics market gains significant momentum. Industry experts project that the market volume for these systems will reach approximately $30 billion by 2030.

Long-term projections suggest a massive scale of deployment, with several hundred million humanoid robots expected to be active across a wide range of global industries by 2050.

PIA Automation is leveraging its history in intelligent manufacturing automation to guide the development of these embodied AI solutions, using deep customer and market insights to identify the most effective use cases for humanoid deployment in the factory of the future.
