Instead, he became the victim of a sophisticated theft orchestrated by a criminal gang, as reported by CBS News. The criminals lured the businessman into multiple meetings under the guise of a legitimate purchase.

To build trust and appear credible, the thieves conducted meetings in luxury hotels, utilized expensive rental cars, and even employed a recognized gemologist to appraise the diamond. This elaborate ruse was designed to fully convince the seller of their seriousness. However, at the final meeting, the criminals seized the diamond and fled, leaving the businessman to report the theft to Dubai police.
