Google Pixel Watch to add Water Lock, Phone Lock Capabilities
Updated June 8, 2025
Google is developing new features for the Pixel Watch, including a water lock and the ability to automatically lock a paired phone when the user walks away. These enhancements were discovered in the Wear OS 6 developer preview.
The “Water lock” feature aims to prevent unintended screen interactions when the Pixel Watch is submerged. While some smartwatches already offer this, it’s a new addition for the Pixel Watch. Code strings suggest the feature is in development, though details remain limited.
The Pixel Watch already has a “Touch lock” function. The new “Water lock” may activate automatically when the watch detects submersion.

Adaptive Charging is also getting an upgrade. Discovered earlier this year, the feature will now include an “override” function, according to the Wear OS 6 preview.
Another addition will allow the Pixel Watch to lock a paired phone when the user moves out of range. Currently, the “Watch Unlock” feature makes unlocking a connected phone easier when the watch is worn. The new “Lock phone when left behind” option will do the opposite, activating when the watch disconnects from the phone.
The rollout timeline for these features remains unclear, but the water lock and phone lock capabilities are expected to arrive with the release of Wear OS 6.
Wear OS 6 will also bring material 3 Expressive to the Pixel Watch, theming the system based on the watch face.
What’s next
Users can anticipate these new features enhancing the Pixel Watch experience, offering improved usability in wet environments and increased security for their paired phones.
