Sony Interactive Entertainment is expanding the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog in , with a lineup headlined by the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The addition of the title, originally released in 2023, represents a significant value proposition for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 allows players to control both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they navigate an expanded version of New York City, now including parts of Queens, and Brooklyn. The game builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and the spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, introducing new traversal mechanics like the Web Wings and enhanced combat abilities. A central narrative element involves the characters facing off against both Kraven the Hunter and Venom, adding layers of complexity to the superhero dynamic.

Beyond Spider-Man 2, the February update to the Game Catalog includes a diverse range of titles. Racing enthusiasts can look forward to Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, a reboot of the open-world massively multiplayer racing genre, featuring a wide selection of vehicles from manufacturers like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. Neva, a 2D platformer from Nomada Studio, offers a more emotionally driven experience, while Season: A Letter to the Future provides a reflective road trip adventure.

The full list of games joining the catalog on also includes Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, Monster Hunter Stories, Venba, Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition, and Rugby 25. This broad selection aims to cater to a variety of gaming preferences, from action-adventure and racing to narrative-focused experiences.

PlayStation Plus operates on a tiered subscription model. The Extra tier, priced at $15 per month, and the Premium tier, at $18 per month, grant access to the Game Catalog. The Essential tier, costing $10 per month, provides access to monthly games and rewards but does not include the extensive library offered by the Extra and Premium tiers.

Sony is also extending the benefits to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers with additional titles arriving in the coming months. Tekken Dark Resurrection will be added in , and Time Crisis is slated for release in . These additions demonstrate a continued commitment to bolstering the value of the Premium tier with classic and fan-favorite titles.

In a separate announcement, House House, the developers of Untitled Goose Game, revealed that their upcoming cooperative game, Big Walk, will be available at no extra cost to all PlayStation Plus subscribers upon its release later this year. This collaboration highlights Sony’s strategy of partnering with independent developers to offer unique and compelling content to its subscriber base.

The addition of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to PlayStation Plus is particularly noteworthy given the game’s critical and commercial success. As of May 2024, the game had sold over 11 million copies, indicating a substantial existing player base. Offering the title through PlayStation Plus allows Sony to reach a wider audience and potentially convert subscribers into future purchasers of other titles within the PlayStation ecosystem.

The PlayStation Plus Game Catalog functions similarly to Xbox Game Pass, providing subscribers with access to a rotating library of games for a monthly fee. This subscription model has become increasingly popular in the gaming industry, offering players a cost-effective way to explore a diverse range of titles without the need for individual purchases. Sony’s continued investment in the PlayStation Plus service underscores its commitment to competing in this evolving landscape.
